Creating a New CCH ProSystem fx Funnel Job

If you only need to convert a single file to PDF, you can do so by opening the file from within CCH ProSystem fx Funnel. The file is converted automatically, with no further action needed. This process works for all file formats supported in CCH ProSystem fx Funnel, with the exception of .zip files. Once a file is converted, you can then use the features within CCH ProSystem fx Funnel to modify the PDF as needed.

If you need to convert many files to PDF, including files that might be in different file formats, you can instead use the procedure below to convert them all at one time.

Regardless of which procedure you use, be aware of the following when you convert files:

• If the read-only property has been applied to a PDF, the read-only setting will be removed when you open the file in CCH ProSystem fx Funnel.
• You must open password-protected PDFs by clicking Open on the CCH ProSystem fx Funnel ribbon and enter the password before you can edit the file. The new PDF created by CCH ProSystem fx Funnel will not require a password.
• The individual files that are included in a .zip file are listed individually in the Input Files grid. During CCH ProSystem fx Funnel processing, each file is evaluated separately for errors.
• When imported into CCH ProSystem fx Funnel, scanned images maintain the same dimensions as the original scan.

Note: The file types that can be converted are specified in the CCH ProSystem fx Funnel Settings window.

We recommend verifying that the selections made there are correct before processing a job.

To convert multiple files at one time in CCH ProSystem fx Funnel, proceed as follows:

1. Click New Job on the PDF Viewer ribbon.
2. Do one of the following:

• Add a cover page. The name of the cover page becomes the job name.

  Note: See About Cover Pages and Target Sheets in CCH ProSystem fx Funnel for information about how cover pages are used.

  1. Click Add Cover Page on the toolbar.
  2. Select the catalog to use when processing the files.
  3. Enter a name for the cover page.
  4. If needed, select the Extraction Cover Page check box. This alerts CCH Scan that the data in the PDF will be autoflowed to a tax return.
  5. Click Add.

• Enter a name for the job in the Job Name box, if needed. If you do not enter a name, the default file name will be Funnel.pdf. If a Funnel.pdf file already exists, subsequent unnamed files will have the date and time appended to the name.

3. Add the files to include in the PDF. For information about the file types that can be added, see File Formats Supported in CCH ProSystem fx Funnel.
   1. Click Browse for Input Files. By default, CCH ProSystem fx Funnel recalls the last location that you browsed to for input files.
   2. Navigate to and select the files to add to the PDF.

   Tip: You can select multiple files at one time if the files are in the same folder. Press and hold the Shift key to select files that are next to each other. Press and hold the Ctrl key if you need to select files that are not next to each other.

   3. Click Open.
   4. Repeat steps above until all required files are added.
   5. Prepare the files for conversion by doing the following as needed.

• Drag and drop files in the grid to reorder them. You can also right-click a file and select to move it.
• Use the sort and filter options at the top of the grid to quickly find specific files.
• Right-click the grid and select to add or remove files.

Tips:
You can perform many of these tasks after converting the file to PDF. However, organizing files at a high-level before conversion can save you time after conversion.
We recommend putting all the single-page documents at the beginning of the list to reduce the need for single-page target sheets (if your firm uses them). See Target Sheet Tips for CCH ProSystem fx Funnel.

4. If you want to insert target sheets, do one of the following:
   • Select Add Target Sheets at the bottom of the window to have generic single- or multi-page target sheets inserted automatically before each file.

Note: When inserting target sheets automatically, CCH ProSystem fx Funnel assigns target sheet types by file type. Single-page target sheets are inserted before all image files, such as JPEG, PNG, and BMP files. Multi-page target sheets are inserted for all other file types.

• If you want to specify where target sheets should be inserted or to force documents into particular bookmarks, insert target sheets manually by right-clicking a file in the Input Files list, and then selecting either Add Target Sheet Above or Add Target Sheet Below, followed by one of these options:

• Single Target Sheet. Select this option for a generic single-page document.
• Multi Target Sheet. Select this option for a generic multi-page document.
• From Catalog. Select this option to specify a particular catalog, document type, or classification. See About Cover Pages and Target Sheets in CCH ProSystem fx Funnel for information about the catalog options you can select.

Note: If you have set up favourite target sheets, you also have the option to select from the list of favourites.

5. Select My job has Cover Page if you selected to add target sheets automatically and there is a cover page included in the Input Files list. Not selecting this option when you are inserting target sheets automatically and you have a cover sheet can cause errors during conversion.
6. Click to select the location where the PDF generated by CCH ProSystem fx Funnel should be stored.
   By default, CCH ProSystem fx Funnel recalls the last location that you selected for saved files.
7. Click Start Conversion. If all files convert successfully, the PDF opens automatically in the main CCH ProSystem fx Funnel window. If there are errors, one of the following will occur, depending on the settings selected by your administrator:
   • The job continues, skipping the files with errors.
   • The job will stop without completing.

   Information about the files with errors displays in the Status column of the Input Files grid.

Note: Clicking Close on the New Job window will cancel your CCH ProSystem fx Funnel job.
